Healthy snacks are a must for little ones, but what about options they can make themselves? Here are a few ideas for fun and simple snacks that kids will love:
- Ants on a Log: A kid’s classic for decades, this snack couldn’t be easier to make. Start by cutting celery into two-to-three inch pieces, and then help kids spread peanut butter (cream cheese also works!) along the ridge of each stalk. Dot the celery sticks with raisins, and voila – nutritious, delicious ants are now served.
- Hot Dog Men: Cut a hot dog in half from the middle down, and then place small diagonal slits on the left and right sides on the opposite end. These cuts will form the legs and arms, respectively, once the hot dogs are boiled in water. After they’re cooked, arrange the dogs on buns and let kids have fun adding faces using ketchup or mustard.
- Pizza Pita Chips: Top salted pita chips with a dab of pizza sauce, then let kids take turns sprinkling on parmesan and mozzarella cheese. Pop the chips under a broiler until the cheese starts to melt, and in less than five minutes you’ll have your very own healthy pizza party.
